Farah Mohamed (Sheeko Xariir)

Publisher, Author, poet and children’s storyteller.
Farah Mohamed is a short story author, novelist, and poet, both English and his native (Somali) languages. For more than ten years, Farah worked with refugees and immigrant communities in the United States; particularly Somalis and other minorities in the Washington metropolitan area. Even though he had shown keen interest in reading and writing, since his childhood, has been deeply inspired by the refugee stories and the continue social strive of his native homeland.

NADIFA MOHAMED

Award winning author
Nadifa Mohamed was born in Hargeisa (now in the Republic of Somaliland) in 1981 and moved as a child to England in 1986, staying permanently when war broke out in Somalia. She lives in London and her first novel, Black Mamba Boy, based on her father’s memories of his travels in the 1930s, was published in 2010. It was longlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction and the Dylan Thomas Prize and shortlisted for the John Llewellyn-Rhys Memorial Prize and the Guardian First Book Award.

Jama Muse Jama

Jama Musse Jama (Somali: Jaamac Muuse Jaamac, Arabic: جامع موسى جامع‎) (b. 1967) is a prominent Somali ethnomathematician and author. He is notable for his research on traditional Somali boardgames such as Shax. His name appears also as Musse Jama Jama or Jama Jama Musse. He authored several books, including “A note of my teachers’ group: news report of an injustice” and “Gobannimo bilaash maaha”. He is the founding director and yearly co-organizer of Hargeysa International Book Fair.
